Childhood & Early Life
Born in Mission Hills, Los Angeles, California, on April 23, 1961, George Edward Lopez was the son of migrant laborers Frieda and Anatasio Lopez. His ancestry is Mexican.
He was raised by his maternal grandparents, Benita Gutierrez, a factory worker, and Refugio Gutierrez, a construction worker, after his mother and father abandoned him when he was ten years old and two months old, respectively.
Lopez finished his high school education at San Fernando in 1979.
Lopez wed Ann Serrano in 1993. Mayan, the couple’s daughter, was born in 1996. Lopez announced his and his wife’s decision to dissolve their marriage on September 27, 2010.
On November 23, 2010, Serrano filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences”. The separation became official on July 1, 2011.
Lopez’s kidneys deteriorated due to a genetic disease. Despite being informed by his doctors in April 2004 that he would need an organ transplant, he decided to wait until the conclusion of the fourth season of George Lopez to have the procedure.
His spouse Ann gave Lopez one of her kidneys in 2005. Lopez lost 45 pounds (20 kg) following the successful transplant, partly as a result of his improved health.
He raised awareness of the problem on his show by revealing that Max, the son of one of his characters, had a related diagnosis.
Supporting Senator Bernie Sanders for President in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, Lopez is a Democrat. Lopez resides in Los Feliz, an area of Los Angeles.

Career
Lopez did standup around Los Angeles (and the U.S.) for years before he first became well known in Los Angeles thanks to a major morning radio show that he hosted on 92.3 FM in Los Angeles in the 1990s.
He was the first Latino to headline the morning drive slot on an English-language station in Los Angeles. He released a number of comedy albums, beginning with “Alien Nation” in 1996.

Trevino retaliated, bringing up Ralph Barbosa, a young man currently gaining popularity in standup, and George nearly instantly objected to his name being brought up.
George questioned Trevino’s motivation for bringing up RB, implying that he wasn’t well-known enough to be included in the conversation. In the end, he stuck to his guns and dismissed Barbosa as a distant relative, even though he had earlier asked the room if it was broken.
His main lesson was to always consider oneself. Paul Rodriguez has hinted that George has a history of doing this kind of thing, so it would appear that in his opinion, that means he won’t discuss other comics or give them any kind of promotion.
In the wake of this Barbosa snub, a resurfaced clip of Paul telling a story about George is currently going viral, and it presents an intriguing picture. Even among his peers, it appears that George has a poor reputation for not doing more to support Latinos.
