On December 13, 1989, in Reading, Pennsylvania, Andrea Gardner and Scott Kingsley Swift welcomed Taylor Alison into the world. Her mother, a homemaker, raised Taylor and her younger brother, Austin, while her father worked as a stockbroker.

She went to the Montessori School in Alvernia. Due to the fact that their parents attended Presbyterian churches, Taylor and Austin used to go to Bible studies.
