Childhood & Early Life
Shakira was a child prodigy who started composing poetry and songs at the age of four and self-taught the guitar at the age of 10.
When she was eight years old, she wrote her first complete song as a result of the loss of a half-sibling and her father’s response to it.
Shakira was relatively unknown outside of her home in Colombia until 1995 when she fully assumed creative control over her music, a blend of rock and dance pop with lyrics that were both intensely personal and bitingly political. Two multiplatinum albums resulted from the strategy.
With the release of her debut album in English in 2001, Laundry Service, which she composed and produced herself and which has sold 15 million (often quoted as 20 million) copies worldwide, she made a breakthrough into the English-speaking market.
The international smash “Whenever, Wherever” a dance tune with distinctive Andean music that quickly became one of the top-selling singles of the 21st century, is largely responsible for the album’s tremendous sales.

Career
1991 saw the release of “Magia,” her debut album. She had composed songs for it ever since she was eight years old. The album’s sales were not good.
1993 saw the publication of “Peligro,” her second album. This album had a higher sales performance than its predecessor, but it was still viewed as a flop.
She took a pause after releasing this album in order to finish high school and attend studies.
In 1996, she made a comeback to the music scene with her third album, “Pies Descalzos.”
Six successful singles were produced by the album, which also earned positive reviews from reviewers.
To promote her record, she undertook the “Tour Pies Descalzos” tour.
“Where Are the Ladrones?” her subsequent album, was published in 1998. It included rock en Espaol-influenced Latin Pop songs.
One of the best-selling Spanish-language albums in the US is the result of this release. Over seven million copies were sold all over the world.
In 2001, she made a foray into the English-language market with the release of the album “Laundry Service.”
The album’s main hit, “Whenever, Wherever,” topped the “U.S. Billboard Hot Latin Songs” list and was characterized by Latin rock and Latin pop genres.
In June 2005, her Spanish CD “Fijacion Oral, Vol. 1” was made available. In November, the English album “Oral Fixation, Vol. 2” was released as a result.
Her hallmark song, “Hips Don’t Lie,” from the latter album, peaked at number one on the “U.S. Billboard Hot 100.”
In 2009, she released her album “She Wolf.” The album sounded strikingly different from her earlier works, incorporating elements of dancehall, electropop, and world music.
It was valued for being different.
She sang “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” the official song of the 2010 “FIFA World Cup,” with the South African band “Freshlyground.” The song was a huge success.
After “Waka Waka” became popular, she released her album “Sale el Sol” in 2010. The album received favorable reviews and had economic success all around the world.
The ninth studio album by Shakira was released on March 25, 2014. She also gave a performance of the song “Dare (La La La)” during the 2014 “FIFA World Cup” closing ceremony.
She sang the song “Try Everything” for the 2016 film “Zootopia.” She embarked on “The El Dorado World Tour,” her sixth global tour, in 2018.

Shakira’s Net Worth
The popular singer is expected to be worth around $300 million in 2023. This fortune is the result of her many years of hard work as a performer, including roles as a singer, composer, music producer, belly dancer, choreographer, model, businesswoman, and philanthropist.
Controversy
Shakira was mentioned in The Paradise Papers in November 2017.
She was found to be the only shareholder in a Malta-based business that once transferred $30 million in music rights, according to an inquiry.
According to her counsel, she used the corporation in a completely lawful manner.
Spanish authorities reportedly started looking into Shakira’s financial situation in 2018 according to the Paradise Papers.
Prosecutors claim that between 2012 and 2014 when she resided in Spain with Piqué and his family, she failed to pay her taxes there.
Shakira alleged that she traveled abroad and kept her main house in the Bahamas during that time.
In July 2021, a Spanish court decided that Shakira might face tax fraud accusations based on “proof of wrongdoing.”
The Pandora Papers in 2021 claim that Shakira submitted applications to three offshore firms in 2019.
She explained to the source that this documentation was actually filed to dissolve existing corporations rather than incorporate new ones.
Additionally, they claimed that the firms had no revenue or operations and that the Spanish government was aware of their existence.
The singer made the decision to go to trial in July 2022 to establish her innocence after attempting to strike an agreement with the Spanish Prosecution Ministry but failing.
The prosecutor asked the judge to impose an eight-year jail term for six suspected tax fraud offenses.
On September 27, 2022, a Spanish court from Esplugues de Llobregat allowed the tax fraud trial after accusing her of neglecting to pay 14.5 million euros ($13.9 million) in taxes.
The singer says she has already paid off all of her obligations and the 3 million euro ($2.8 million) interest.
