death
Following their departure from their London home, Dawood and his family traveled to Canada for a month. During Father’s Day weekend, Dawood, a Titanic enthusiast with a “years long passion for science and discovery,” purchased tickets for himself and his spouse to board the Titan submersible and see the wreckage of the Titanic.
Afterwards, his wife donated her ticket to Suleman, the couple’s nineteen-year-old son. The dive started early on June 18, 2023, and was scheduled to take the travelers to a depth of 3,800 meters (12,500 feet).
It was anticipated to take eight hours to complete. After starting its descent, Titan lost touch with the surface ship, MV Polar Prince, around one hour and forty-five minutes in. The United States, Canada, and France provided air and water help for search and rescue operations.
The United States Coast Guard announced on June 22, 2023, that they had discovered debris “consistent with a catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber” approximately 1,600 feet (500 meters) from the Titanic’s bow.
They came to the conclusion that all of the passengers on board, including Dawood and his son Suleman, Hamish Harding, Paul-Henri Nargeolet, and Stockton Rush, CEO of OceanGate, had perished instantly.

Controversy
Bloom shared a string of texts he had exchanged with Rush earlier in the year, following the US Coast Guard’s announcement that it had discovered fragments of the Titan.
For a year, Stockton Rush had been trying to persuade investor Jay Bloom of Las Vegas to purchase a few seats on his company’s submersible so that Bloom and his son could have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to tour the Titanic’s deep-sea debris.
In a Friday interview, Bloom stated that he was fascinated. When Sean, his now-20-year-old son, was a young boy, the tale of the tragic British passenger liner captivated him.
However, Bloom’s concerns about the Titan submersible’s safety increased with each article he read. He then revealed that he had courteously declined an invitation to participate in the season’s last trip due to scheduling issues.
Instead, Pakistani-born tycoon Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman, who also died last week when the Titan collapsed deep beneath the Atlantic, were given the two available seats on board, according to Bloom.
Bloom shared a series of text exchanges between himself and Rush from earlier this year on Facebook, in which Rush rejected the idea that the journey was risky. The posts were made on Thursday, following the US Coast Guard‘s announcement that it had discovered pieces of the Titan on the ocean floor.
