Gosling was raised in a middle-class household in London by his mother Donna and his father Thomas Ray Gosling, a traveling salesman.

Gosling’s parents divorced when he was barely 13 years old, and he and his older sister Mandi moved live with their mother.

Gosling was given an early diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) as a result of this he had trouble focusing in class.

The next year, he was homeschooled by his mother, and it was during this time that he fell in love with the performing arts.

Gosling and his sister used to dance with a nearby ballet company and sing at weddings.

He left high school without finishing his studies in order to pursue a career in the film industry.

Gosling dated Sandra Bullock, his “Murder by Numbers” co-star, for just one year.

Despite having a 16-year age gap, the two had a romantic relationship while working on the movie.

However, the relationship was short-lived, and the two split up in 2003.

Gosling’s relationship with Rachel McAdams, with whom he co-starred in “The Notebook“, lasted from 2005 until 2007.

Gosling told a UK newspaper of his relationships with Bullock and McAdams: “I had two of the best girlfriends of all time.

He began dating American actress and model Eva Mendes, who co-starred with him in “The Place Beyond the Pines” in 2011.

Controversy

  • Neil Armstrong’s movie ‘First Man‘ omits the American flag being planted on the moon, and star Ryan Gosling defended the decision: ‘I don’t think that Neil viewed himself as an American hero‘. He also said, “From my interviews with his family and people that knew him, it was quite the opposite. And we wanted the film to reflect Neil“.
  • Back in 2010, the star got in a touch of ‘trouble’ for a certain sex scene that felt a little too ‘real’. Gosling sparked controversy after starring in the indie smash-hit movie Blue Valentine alongside Williams.
  • Fans expressed a sort of distress when the first photos of Ryan Gosling as Ken in the upcoming “Barbie” movie with bleached hair were released, pointing out that Gosling’s Ken resembles another blonde star.
Although the appearance fits the character, Warner Bros. presumably didn’t anticipate the fan response.
The primary criticism from fans is that Ryan Gosling not only appears very different from himself but also strikingly resembles divisive talk show presenter Ellen DeGeneres.
