Childhood & Early Life
Prabhas was born into a Telugu-speaking family to film producer Uppalapati Surya Narayana Raju and Siva Kumari in Madras, Tamil Nadu.
The youngest of three children, he has a elder brother, Prabodh, and elder sister, Pragathi.
His family hails from Mogalthur, near Bhimavaram of West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh. His uncle Krishnam Raju Uppalapati is also a Telugu-actor.
Prabhas did his schooling at DNR School, Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh, and got enrolled in Sri Chaitanya College, Hyderabad from where he got a degree in engineering.
He started his acting career with Eeswar (2002, Telugu), and following this, he continued working in 1 or 2 movies in a year.
Moreover, it was his uncle, Uppalapati Krishnam Raju, who encouraged him to try his luck in the acting world.

Career
Prabhas started his movie career with Eeswar in 2002. In 2003, he was the lead in Raghavendra. In 2004, he appeared in Varsham. He continued his career with Adavi Raamudu and Chakram.
In 2005 he acted in the film Chatrapathi directed by S. S. Rajamouli, in which he portrays the role of a refugee, exploited by goons.
Later he acted in Pournami, Yogi, and Munna, an action-drama film that came out in 2007, followed by the action-comedy Bujjigadu in 2008.
In 2009 his two films were Billa and Ek Niranjan.
In 2010 he appeared in the romantic comedy Darling. The film opened to positive reviews. The Times of India gave a two-and-a-half-star rating explaining “Director Karunakaran extracts good performances from his actors, but can’t come up with a refreshing plot.”
In 2011, Mr. Perfect was another romantic comedy. The review site GreatAndhra rated the film with three stars.
In 2012, Prabhas starred in Rebel, an action film directed by Raghava Lawrence. His next film was Mirchi. He rendered his voice for a short cameo for the film Denikaina Ready.
In 2015 he appeared as Shivudu/Mahendra Baahubali and Amarendra Baahubali in S.S. Rajamouli’s epic Baahubali: The Beginning which is the fourth-highest-grossing Indian film to date.
Prabhas reprised his role in its sequel, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017), which became the first Indian film ever to gross over ₹1,000 crores (US$155 million) in all languages in just ten days, and it is the second highest-grossing Indian film to date.
Prabhas won the SIIMA Award for Best Actor (Telugu) for his performance in The Conclusion.
In 2019, Prabhas starred in the Sujeeth-directed action thriller Saaho. Despite receiving unfavorable reviews, the film went on to gross over ₹433 crore.
As of January 2021, Prabhas’ did a romantic drama, Radhe Shyam.
In 2023 he also played the titular role in Aadipurush, an adaptation of the Hindu epic Ramayana.

The “Adipurush” Controversy:
Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra had taken objection against the Om Raut directorial Adipurush, accusing the makers of the ‘wrong‘ depiction of Hindu deities.
“The dresses and look of Hindu deities as seen in the trailer were not acceptable. Hanuman ji is shown wearing leather, whereas the description (in the scriptures) of the deity’s costume is different… These are scenes that hurt religious sentiments,” he had told PTI.
It was also accused of stealing sequences from Hollywood blockbusters like Game of Thrones, Planet of the Apes, Jungle Book, and others.
Prabhas was recently also criticized for his Hindi diction. Talking about his fluency in Hindi, Prabhas said that his only problem is that his Hindi has a Hyderabadi touch since Hindi is not his first language.
“I did a lot of work on my language. I can read and write in Hindi. I ask for Hindi dialogue…I don’t like reading them in English, as the pronunciation gets affected,” said Prabhas.
