Palki Sharma completed her school education at Loreto Convent, Tara Hall, Shimla.

Career

Doordarshan

Palki Sharma Upadhyay began working for Doordarshan, India’s largest broadcast television network, as a journalist and news anchor in 2002.

Palki was given the responsibility of hosting the channel’s national and local television programming. She also received extra instructions on how to choose, organize, and write current affairs stories for the channel.

Hindustan Times

Palki began contributing articles on national civic and social problems to Hindustan Times as a Staff Writer in 2004.

Palki was tasked with assessing movies and copy-editing the Jaipur edition of Hindustan Times during her one-year employment there.

CNN-News18

Palki subsequently began working as its Anchor and Senior Editor for “CNN-News18,” India’s largest English-language news television station, in May 2005.

Controversy

The Delhi High Court declined to prevent Palki Sharma Upadhyay, a former editor of WION, from joining Network18. Her former employer, Zee Media Corporation Limited, sued the anchor in court.

Nearly a month after the anchor left the network to serve as the managing editor of Network18, Zee Media filed a lawsuit against her in October.

The court also noted Upadhyay’s attorney’s promise that “she will not share any sensitive or private information that she may have been privy to during her engagement with the Zee to any third party,” according to Bar and Bench.

Zee presented the court with a lengthy number of complaints it had against Upadhyay. Two long-term injunctions against her were requested in its lawsuit.

First, until June 2023, to stop her from switching to the competing network controlled by multi-billionaire entrepreneur Mukesh Ambani.

Second, to prevent her from telling her new employers any proprietary or private information about Zee.

Along with a declaration from Upadhyay that she had violated the terms of her Zee contract and notice period policy, the network also demanded damages in the amount of Rs 2 crore.

Additionally, it urged the judge to order the journalist to continue working for Zee through December of this year.

The court declined to impose restrictions on Network 18 employee Palki Sharma and her employment.

The court did state, however, that “She would not communicate to any other party any sensitive or classified information that she may have been exposed to during her engagement with the Zee.”
